General Policies

DSA Dance Attendance Policy: 

 

The DSA Dance Attendance policy is as follows: Dance is a performing arts class and therefore, in order to learn properly, the student must attend on a regular basis. 

​

 

Daily Performance/ Participation Grade Breakdown: 

The student will receive a weekly participation grade. The grade is broken down into daily points. The student will receive 20 points for each day of the week. 

The student must adhere to the class syllabus and class policies in order to receive their points. You may also receive a deduction for laziness, disrespectful behavior, being tardy to class (LTP), and executing the movement incorrectly.

If you are absent from class, please contact Ms. Duke, the attendance clerk, and she will determine whether the absence is excused or unexcused. Her email is michelle_duke@dpsnc.net

 

Unexcused absences will receive no participation points for the day.

DSA Dance Concert Policy: 

 

 

The DSA Dance Department has a strict policy when it comes to concert attendance. There are 2 MANDATORY dance concerts during the school year. 

 

 

Schedule: 

Tech Rehearsal Tuesday, 12/6/22 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Tech Rehearsal Wednesday, 12/7/22 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Dress Rehearsal Thursday, 12/8/22 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Concert Friday, 12/9/22 5pm Calltime Weaver 

 

Tech Rehearsal Monday, 5/8/23 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Tech Rehearsal Tuesday, 5/9/23 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Dress Rehearsal Wednesday, 5/10/23 4pm-8pm Weaver 

Concert Thursday, 5/11/23 4pm-8pm Weaver 

 

 

Attendance is MANDATORY for all dancers who are participating in the concert. All dancers should be seated in the auditorium by 4pm for all rehearsals and performances. Roll call will promptly happen at 4pm. If a student is late or misses their name in roll call, it is a 10 point deduction per day from their concert grade. If a student misses tech, dress, or show without prior permission, a 20 point deduction per day will result. Tech and dress rehearsal are of CRUCIAL importance for the success of any production. 

 

 

If the student must miss rehearsal or performance, he/she must communicate well in advance with the instructor. If the student is an athlete, the DSA policy is athletes cannot miss dress rehearsal or performance for practice or game. Sickness, injury, and a death in the immediate family are excused absences. Outside studio conflicts and job conflicts are UNEXCUSED absences. 

 

 

If the student is injured and is unable to participate in the concert, then he/she must complete an alternate assignment to get credit for the concert. The alternate assignment is a 10 page typed choreographer biography explaining how the person has influenced the dance world. MLA format, works cited page included. This assignment must be turned in by the day of the concert.
